With vaccination of youth 12 to 17 happened at a good pace in the Huron Perth Region Medical Officer of Health Dr. Miriam Klassen doesn’t think the wait will be too much longer for a vaccine for those under 12.
“I would expect we would see a pediatric [Covid-19] vaccine by the fall at some point. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see the 6 to 11 age group already be to market by the fall by what I see.”
She adds that this isn’t something to quote her on the timeline just yet it’s the direction she sees vaccines going from the vaccine trials being done.
The safe return to school in the fall has been linked almost directly by the Provincial Government to youth vaccination rates.
The likelihood of a return to required online learning as a result of outbreaks in schools is seen as being lessened by full vaccination of students.
