As clocks will spring forward at 2am on Sunday, the St Marys Fire Department is reminding residents this is the perfect time to install new batteries and test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
Working smoke alarms are required by law and at the start of this year, carbon monoxide alarms must be installed on every storey of the home and outside all sleeping areas if the home contains a fuel burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage.
Phil West, St Mary’s Fire Chief says its best during Daylight Savings Time to check your alarms as they expire after 10 years and must be replaced if they’re past the date.
