Today at approximately 8:40 am the Wellington County OPP responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on Grandview Avenue in Fergus.

The homeowner reported hearing someone knocking on their front door. Moments later, the homeowner confronted the lone suspect who had just pried open a rear door. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle and was quickly arrested nearby by police.

A search of the suspect resulted in the seizure of break-in tools and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.

A 49 year old male resident of Guelph has been charged with break and enter to a dwelling house, possession of break-in instruments, 2 counts of failure to comply with a release order and possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine.

Wellington County OPP would like to remind property owners to make sure they keep doors locked day and night even if you’re home.  Report any suspicious persons or vehicles to police.
