A three storey townhouse development has been approved in Palmerston and with it, one single detached home will be demolished.

While there was much council discussion with some against the move, the proposed development will see two, 4 unit cluster townhouse dwellings with a reduce lot area on a 0.4 acre Young Street property near the Palmerston Agricultural Society grounds.

What had some council division was the discussion of green space on the development which Councilor Judy Dirksen says even if it isn’t a lot, it’s still more than straight apartments.

“I’m looking at this more as almost apartment buildings and the little postage stamp of green grass that goes with each one is more than some families have. Nobody is going to buy or rent these with their eyes closed. People will understand that is all the room that there is.” said Dirksen.

While the applicant and developers did look into more green space there wasn’t much they could do. Council approved the development in a 4-3 vote.
