North Perth council is equaling out the playing field for taxi companies across the municipality.
Staff brought a report to council on Monday after feedback was given by local taxi operators who say they must comply with a taxi by law whereas ride sharing companies do not, given taxi operators an unfair disadvantage.
Acting Clerk, Sarah Carter says removing the taxi by law is something similar sized municipalities have already done.
“So there are lots of municipalities that don’t currently have any taxi companies operating at all and we’ve seen an increasing amounts of neighbouring municipalities deregulate taxi licensing.” said Carter.
On top of deregulating the taxi licensing for companies, there also is a plan to refund any licensing fees that were collected this year.
