In the last meeting of the current council of North Perth prior the election, council spent time discussing a work plan towards housing in the municipality.
In May this year, council had requested staff prepare a report in what actions could be taken towards affordable housing and have an action plan.
A deep dive into recent years of the topic such as councils, leadership and the community such as the Mayor’s Task Force on Affordable Housing shows overall, it’s a complex issue which needs an all government approach.
Jessica McLean, Manager of Strategic Initiatives says the current work plan as it stands is not set in stone and can change overtime.
“This work plan will evolve as new opportunities related to housing present themselves. This includes grant funding and potential project partnerships. Staff will also continue to support the efforts of our housing partners and areas such as homelessness” said McLean.
McLean adds the plan is still in its early stages of investigation.
Council approved the work plan which will see it become a part of the 2023 North Perth budget.
