The cost of Erin’s Wastewater treatment plant is estimated to be $126,000.
The cost will be shared between developers and residents to bring the town’s share to between $58 and $68 million dollars.
Town Council hear a presentation from Director of Infrastructure Services, Nick Colucci at their March 16th meeting. He outlined the costs after previous direction to staff was to come back with full report.
He says that the town’s share is reduced even more from previous projections to $22 to $32 million dollars after taking over contributions by developers into account.
The town has spent an estimated $401,000 on consultations and legal fees in the project so far.
The cost to existing homeowners in the Villages of Erin and Hillsburgh to hook up to the wastewater treatment facility will be between $4000 and $23,000 but Collucci says $6400 will be the typical amount.
The exact cost will depend on the size of the property and where the connection will occur on each site.
The town is seeking federal and provincial grants in order to bring down the cost even more for homeowners.
The way in which homeowners are billed is still being decided. The town would have to borrow the total amount of the project and pay it off as homeowners pay their cost.
The town currently has a borrowing limit of $22 million dollars.
