As March marks Nutrition Month, the Stratford & Perth County Community Foundation is highlighting how local philanthropy has responded to the growing need of food insecurity.
Rising grocery costs, fixed incomes and more has led to these issues and the increased need for school nutrition programs and community meal support.
Last year, $82,525 from Community Foundation funds were directed to various food security initiatives, supporting 30 programs delivered by 25 local organizations.
Endowment funds at the Community Foundation were created specifically to address food related needs with support to the Chris Kurz Fund, Teahen Family Nutrition and Wellbeing Fund and Florence Kehl Fund.
Rachel Smith, Acting Director of the Stratford & Perth County Community Foundation says because of the generosity of local fund holders, they are able to support organizations that are responding to food insecurity.
