The Commercial Operation Safe Driver Campaign runs from July 11 to 17, 2021 and the Perth County OPP will be engaged in this campaign to ensure fewer collisions involving commercial motor vehicles (CMV) take place.
The focus is on the safety and interaction of commercial motor vehicles with other road users. The OPP will be paying attention to dangerous driving behaviors, and passenger vehicles engaging in risky behaviors around commercial vehicles.
The OPP investigates thousands of preventable commercial motor vehicle collisions ever year, making this a serious road safety issue.
Last year commercial collisions made up 11% of OPP investigated collisions in Ontario. This was a slight decrease from the year before. In total the West Region OPP responded to just over 1000 collisions involving CMVs in 2020.
The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to the safe roads.
The OPP continue to work with CMV drivers to aim in a reduction in the number of CMV related collisions and resulting deaths and injuries on OPP patrolled roads.
