There are many sports that allow us all to keep active, stay in shape and have fun with our friends.
One that has growing popularity among a wide range of ages and ability levels is pickleball.
The spot was invented in the mid sixties as a children’s backyard game. It grew in popularity quickly among community centres, physed classes, public parks, ymca’s and retirement communities.
The sport blends various aspects of badminton, table tennis and tennis. There are 2 or 4 players who use solid paddles made of wood or composite material to hit a perforated ball much like a whiffle ball over the net.
There are reasons you should give it a try. Firstly it is healthy. Pickleball provides a chance to work on balance, agility, reflexes and hand-eye coordination without straining your body excessively.
It’s easy to learn and the rules are simple. The paddles are large in size which make it easy to hit with a little practice and new players can generally find themselves volleying the ball back and forth in under an hour.
The sport is social, the courts are small and lend themselves to conversations.
If you live in the the Town of Minto, Clifford Hall is offering multiple opportunities to give Pickleball a try.
They are offering 4 days of Pickleball competition for anyone that is interested. Monday mornings from 10 until noon, Monday evening from 7 until 8:30pm, Tuesday morning from 10 until noon, Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30pm and Thursday morning from 10 until noon.
