Classic Blackberry Devices to Cease working as of Today

Impacted Devices run the Classic BlackBerry 7.1, 10 or Playbook OS.

Those that still hold a classic Blackberry wireless device in their hands may want to consider putting it down and picking up either an iPhone or either an Android Blackberry or other device.

The Waterloo based company announced last year that today is the day that devices running their Blackberry 7.1 OS or earlier or Blackberry 10, Playbook 2.1 or earlier will cease to function.

Impacted devices will no longer have reliable data, the ability to make phone calls, text messages or 911 functionality.

The shutdown will not impact Blackberry phones running Android so at least those that cling to a physical keyboard do have options… if you can find them on the used market.

The blackberry device was first released way back in the 90’s but lost favour with the introduction of other smart devices.
