City of Stratford Warns of Walking Over Frozen Lakes and Rivers

Stratford resident was not injured after falling through ice on Avon River

Everyone is reminded of taking caution when on any frozen lake or river to always check the thickness of the ice before walking over it.

A Stratford resident had recently fallen through the ice on the east end of Avon River. The individual was not injured. The City of Stratford is urging residents to stay off the river, even if it looks safe as the thickness of the ice is always unpredictable.

Moving water beneath the ice surface near areas such as the R. Thomas Orr Dam, where the water is deeper can cause hazardous conditions for those walking or skating on its surface.
