Centre Wellington council has awarded the tender of the St David Street North Fergus reconstruction to Drexler Construction Limited.
The contract at $6.9 million will be tackled in two phases.
Phase 1 taking place this year will see the reconstruction of St David Street North from St Andrew Street to 50 metres north of Garafraxa Street.
Phase 2 slotted for next year will be the reconstruction of St David Street North 50 metres north of Garafraxa Street to Edinburgh Avenue.
The project will see the replacement of the municipal underground infrastructure include the watermain and sanitary sewer.
