Several young Canadians are fighting the federal government in court in an effort to take down the minimum voting age.

They argue denying citizens under the age of 18 the right to vote is unconstitutional.

The youth challenging the government say one section of the charter guarantees the right to vote for all Canadian citizens without an age qualification.

Thirteen youth across the country between the ages of 12-18 are part of the suit which has not yet been tested in court.

The Canada Elections Act has the minimum voting age set at 18.
