Listowel crews with North Perth Fire responded Thursday night to an unattended cooking incident at an apartment.
Fire crews received the call from neighbours in the apartment when they heard the smoke alarm going off but the occupant was nowhere to be found.
Crews were able to deal with the situation before it could turn serious with North Perth Fire giving praise to the neighbours for calling as it could have been much worse had they chosen to ignore the alarm.
Unattended cooking is the leading cause of residential fires. North Perth Fire says to stand by your pan and always remember to look while you cook.
