Changes are coming to the Blue Box program in Ontario and will affect Wellington County.
The new program will replace the current and will transition from a County of Wellington responsibility to a full producer responsibility system.
This transition will start on July 1st and be in full effect by January 1st next year.
The change was made by the provincial government four years ago with new regulations which make producers fully accountable and financially responsible for their products and packaging.
Steve O’Neill, Chair of the Solid Waste Services Committee says despite the change, there will be no immediate change for how residents recycle during the initial transition period.
