Welcome to Roland’s Good News File… brought to you by Royal LePage Don Hamilton Real Estate… I’m Roland Archer.

It isn’t often that that an organization reaches a milestone like 10, 20 or 50 years. These achievements mean the service you are providing and the customer satisfaction you are achieving are standing the test of time.

This is the achievement that Belwood Lodge and Camp is seeing this year. The camp located North East of Fergus, Ontario is celebrating it’s 75th Anniversary.

Maddie Rawling, Camp Director at Belwood Lodge & Camp tells us how the camp got started 75 years ago.

“It was started 75 years ago by the Kiwanis Club of Guelph. Since then we have been providing a holiday experience for people with intellectual disabilities to come and play at our camp and have a great summer experience. Kind of have the ability to do any activities they’d like to doin the summer.”

The camp has a wide range of activities that campers can take part in while on-site. Maddie gives us a glimpse at what they are in store for during their time there.

“We have a fully accessible pool which is a camp favourite. One of most popular activities is the talent show. All of our lodgers come together and show their amazing talents to fellow campers and staff members and it’s something everyone looks forward to each year.”

The camp is hopeful for a camping season this upcoming summer. They were forced to change their programming last summer and deliver their services a bit differently. Maddie explains.

“We were able to offer a virtual camp program which was a huge success. We were able to bring together all of our lodgers and share some camp spirit over Zoom. That is something we are offering in addition to our in-person programming this summer.”

The camp is in need of some capital repairs this coming season. They are currently fundraising for a new septic system for the camp. Maddie explains the ways in which they are able to take donations.

“They can donate on our website which is BelwoodLodgeandCamp.com. We do have a section where you are able to donate by credit card or mail us a cheque as well.”
