Perth East will soon be kicking off its backyard chicken pilot program.
The two year pilot will kick off July 1st and end June 30th 2027.
The current rules for the pilot will allow 1 chicken coop and 1 run per property but will not be permitted in multi residential homes such as apartments.
Coop rules include a minimum 2.5 metres setback from property lines or to get your neighbours consent, coops will not be allowed in front yards, must be weatherproof, ventilated and predator proof.
Those looking to get backyard chickens must submit a site plan with coop/run location and setbacks and review the bylaw for a complete list of regulations and pay the required $75 application fee.
