An increase in enrollment at Avon Public School in Stratford has moved the board to act and turn the longtime music room in the school to a regular classroom.
A letter was sent out to parents and school staff on Monday of the boards decision, which also looked at enrollment number increases over the next two years which will see a tighter space at the school and extra classrooms are in need.
Dr. Lisa Walsh, Avon Maitland Director of Education saying in the letter, the province’s Education Ministry doesn’t provide funding for dedicated classroom space for certain subjects which includes music.
An online petition to help save the music room has already gained traction which has gained over 900 signatures.
