Avon Crest in Stratford will not be designated as a heritage site and its demolition will go forward.

Stratford council voted to not issue a notice of intent to name Stratford’s first public hospital as a heritage building.

While various delegations came forward to speak on saving the building, Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance President Andrew Williams also spoke who was part of the those believing demolishing the building is the only responsible option.

Late last month the Healthcare Alliance said they are planning to demolish the building for a new 128 bed long term care home.
