The projected growth in Wellington County, specifically in Arthur shows the wastewater capacity could not handle the growth.

Despite a recent upgrade to Arthur’s wastewater treatment plant without further capacity opening up at the plant, the future development could hit a snag.

As part of an environmental assessment addressing the limited sewage treatment capacity of Arthur’s plant against growth in the village by 2031, a phase two upgrade for the plant was approved by the province with the decision being valid until 2024.

Costs for upgrades however are unfunded and have large costs associated with them which could run between $9.1 and $14.9 million.
