Arsonist sentenced in connection to Erin & Guelph-Aramosa in 2016-17

Sentencing was delayed from March 2020 due to Pandemic

The man who set off a string of fires in the Erin and Guelph-Eramosa area  in 2016 and 2017 has been sentenced.

Justin Beal, 31, was sentenced yesterday to 21 months in prison, 36 months of probation and the requirement of paying $39,000 in restitiution.

Beal was found guilty of five counts of arson in December of 2019 and had a pre-sentencing hearing in March of last year but his sentencing wa delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He had previously pleased not guilty to seven counts of arson.

There were a total of 27 suspicious fires in Wellington County in 2016 and 2017 – most in buildings abandoned – and no one was injured or died as a result of the fires.
