During weekly surveillance testing at Wellington Terrace LTC Home in Fergus, an employee tested positive. The employee is asymptomatic and is isolating at home.

Wellington Terrace staff immediately responded to the situation with direction from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Heath to limit further transmission. The employee was last in the building on December 23rd.

Families of residents are in the process of being notified of the situation.

Upon receiving the test result the facility worked closely with Public Health to begin contract tracing those that may have come in contact with the infected employee.

Three new residents are considered a close contact and are in isolation.

Prior to this positive test result, Wellington Terrace was placed in a facility wide outbreak status. This status has been extended until January 6th. This is the fourth staff member to be diagnosed with the virus.

Employees of the facility are tested every 7 days as per Ministry of Health directives. Any resident or employee showing even the slightest evidence of a health change is immediately tested for Covid-19.

New admissions are prohibited at Wellington Terrace. To date no resident has been diagnosed Covid-19 positive at the facility.
