Just as it was to become a requirement for Canadian truck drivers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to get into the country or face quarantine, the federal government is backing down from the mandate.
The mandate will still however affect American truckers which will start this weekend.
American truckers coming into Canada who aren’t vaccinated will be turned away at the border.
Officials with the Canadian Trucking Alliance say around 10 per cent of the 120,000 Canadian truckers who regular make border travels are not fully vaccinated.
Trade groups and the federal Conservatives continue to call on the Trudeau government to postpone the deadline as they say this will continue to cause strain on supply chains.
