On December 19th at approximately 10 pm a Wellington County OPP officer was on general patrol in the area of Wellington Road 109 in the Township of Mapleton.

The officer observed a white pick-up travelling westbound at a high rate of speed while attempting to pass other motor vehicles. 2 eastbound vehicles were forced to take evasive action by swerving to avoid a head-on collision.

Another officer who was a little further west, observed the same pickup travelling at a speed that appeared well above the posted 80 km limit. The vehicle was locked on radar travelling in excess of 165 km per hour.

A shot time later the same pickup was spotted by a witness and police on Main Street in Palmerston. After nearly causing another collision, police measured the vehicles speed of 115 km in a post 50 km zone. Police did not pursue the pic-up due to safety concerns.

Shortly after 10pm the suspect was observed by another officer travelling eastbound on Wellington Road 109 at Wellington Road 10 in the Township of Mapleton.

The officer was conducting stationary radar and measured a speed in excess of 170 km in a posted 80 zone. The officer deployed a tire deflation device and police were successful in stopping the pick-up trick. The driver was arrested at the scene.

Charged is a 52 year old male of Vaughan with dangerous driving and racing a motor vehicle.

The accused is scheduled to appear in an Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on January 12th to answer to charges.

The vehicle and drivers license were seized for a period of seven days.
