This next term in North Perth council is going to look much different in the council chambers.
While no official announcement has been made, Todd Kasenberg has made note in previous council meetings of his intention to retire and Deputy Mayor Doug Kellum has put his name in for Mayor in the October election.
Kellum has served in council for 20 years including the past 12 as Deputy Mayor and serving a term as Warden of Perth County last year.
Kellum who made note that Allan Rothwell and Matt Duncan have submitted their intentions of running for Deputy Mayor says this means openings in the Elma ward with Kellum urging others to either get out and vote or consider a run in municipal council.
“We try to educate and get people out to vote. If you want your say, you need to vote and we have two councilors in the Elma Ward running for Deputy Mayor, that’s going to open up two spots. One is going to be defeated, one will move on. I encourage people to get out and if they’re interested in municipal politics to get out and give it a shot.” said Kellum.
Nominations will be accepted until August 21st with residents heading to the polls on October 26th.
