There will be a new Mayor in Wellington North this October and a familiar face in the chambers is putting his hat in the race.
Andy Lennox announced he would not be seeking re-election who is stepping back after 16 years on council who was first elected as Mayor in 2014 which included stints as Warden of Wellington County from 2022-2024.
Ward 4 councilor, Steve McCabe has announced his intention of running for Mayor.
McCabe was very thankful for Lennox’s leadership over the years, someone acting to show him the ways when it came to municipal council.
“Going in 12 years ago when he first ran for Mayor, I had a huge of a learning curve and he was there every step of the way to kind of help me learn the ropes. He was a very pragmatic and financial responsible councilor and when he became Mayor it was pronounced even more” said McCabe.
McCabe says when it came time to think about running, he knew exactly who to speak to first.
“The first person I talked to was my wife. I’ve always maintained if you can’t get your spose or partner to support you, you’re gonna have a hard time getting anyone else to vote for you. We’ve had a number of conversations leading up to this May 1st nomination date and I don’t feel my job here is done in Wellington North. I think we have a lot to accomplish yet.”
McCabe brings in experience serving on multiple committees as well as being the Zone 2 Chair of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association.
