With the Royal Canadian Legion marking its 100th anniversary, the Harriston Legion has requesting council for a Veterans Crosswalk in town.
The crosswalk, honouring past, present and future veterans is requested at the corners of Elora and Mill Streets, near the Cenotaph.
In a letter to council, the Legion says this crosswalk would also provide children and adults the opportunity to remember the sacrifices our brave veterans have made in order for Canada to remain the strong and free country it is today.
Minto Mayor Dave Turton was in full support of this, considering just how involved the Harriston Legion is within the community.
“The Legion in Harriston is a very active Legion and does a lot of great for this town and has for many many years. I personally think we need to support this and get on with it, we’ve been talking about this for quite a number of years” said Turton.
While no funding numbers were locked in for the Town to give, council has directed staff to bring a report back to council on supporting the crosswalk.
