The Township of Centre Wellington is urging residents to stay off of stormwater facilities as they are not safe for any use.
The township says while the ponds could look safe its what is below the surface which makes the different from regular ponds and as a result, flow and water levels can fluctuate quickly without warning.
Stormwater ponds are designed to prevent flooding, erosion and improve the quality of water before it is gradually released back into the nearest stream or river.
Water could also include road salt and other contaminants which affect ice quality.
