One of Palmerston’s biggest construction projects will begin this spring.

The reconstruction of Wellington Road 123 will take place over two construction seasons, split into three sections which will see major underground infrastructure upgrades, new road surfaces, sidewalks, stormwater improvements and the construction of new roundabouts to improve safety and traffic flow in town.

Moorefield Excavating is heading the work with the tender awarded at $14.2 million and a total project value estimated at $20.25 million.

Minto Mayor Dave Turton says the communication has key for them so businesses continue to thrive during this work while also addressing traffic calming measures once the work is done.

“There was traffic cameras on the main street in Palmerston but they’re gone now. Now we’re trying to do some work that is going to help with traffic calming, slowing traffic down. That’s a big part of this.” said Turton.

The work has an estimated completion target of 2028.
