Jean Anderson, her family and the community are once again rallying for Christmas, offering a free Christmas meal in Palmerston.
The Anderson’s 11th annual Community Christmas Dinner will be held on the 25th with the meal served at 1pm and is open to everyone, acting as a way to enjoy company for those who would otherwise be spending Christmas alone.
Since its inception, the dinner has grown with volunteers increasing to support with food items or monetary donations which have been given across the area with this year’s being a focus on the community food pantry’s in Minto.
Jean Anderson says this all started when she was taking part in a Meals on Wheels program and noticed the level of senior isolation.
“They have this little table set for one plate and it just broke my heart, I’m just thinking oh my goodness how lonely is this? I said to David we should do something for Christmas Day because we aren’t working and the kids aren’t coming that day, they’re coming a different day so we tried to find a dinner to help with but we couldn’t find one that needed help so we just started our own.” said Anderson.
