Avian influenza has been confirmed in Mitchell.
While the specific location as to where the bird flu is isn’t known, it has resulted in the closure of the West Perth Wetlands for a period of time.
The virus mainly affects birds but poses a low risk to humans in close contact with infected birds.
The public is urged to not touch dead or sick birds, keep pets away from sick wildlife and a reminder that properly cooked poultry and eggs are safe.
Public health is monitoring the situation.
