United Way Perth Huron is giving Perth-Huron residents a chance to speak up for community housing.
Locals are being encouraged to visit the United Way website to sign a petition to encourage the federal and provincial governments to invest in new community housing in the region.
Most community housing in Perth-Huron is owned and operated by Huron County and the City of Stratford with the units primarily built through federal and provincial programs in the 60’s and 70’s with wait times often being years for these units.
Executive Director Ryan Erb says the reality is there are many people in our region who can’t afford the rents and prices on the market today and its why we need serious investments in community housing owned by non profits, co-ops and the public sector.
