Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has confirmed a positive test for West Nile Virus in a dead bird found in Guelph.

While this case has been found there still has not been a reported human case of the virus within the region.

Dr. Matthew Tenenbaym, Associate Medical Officer of Health says the detection in the region means mosquitoes capable of transmitting the virus are present locally and while the risk of severe illness is low, they are encouraging everyone to take precautions to prevent mosquito bites.
