Heavy rain has led to high water levels across the Thames River Watershed.

With heavy rain forecasts throughout the month, there was the potential for a significant flood event.

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority issued a Water Condition Statement on April 1st and by April 3rd, rain gauges across the watershed reported 35-55mm of rain and many measuring above 55mm.

Streams and rivers responded quickly to the runoff and Upper Thames River Conservation Staff closely monitored the evolving conditions and operated flood control reservoirs to reduce flooding in communities downstream.

While significant flooding was avoided, there was extensive localized flooding in low lying areas highlighting the importance of keeping development away from flood vulnerable areas.
