OPP are reminding residents to make sure they are following safe internet practices after an online sextortion incident.
On April 7th, Wellington County OPP received a report of sextortion involving a youth. In this incident the young victim was contacted by an unknown person posing as a youth of TikTok.
The suspect and victim exchanged intimate images when the suspect then threatened to share the images unless money was sent.
The victim did not send any money and later reported the activity to a parent. OPP say if something similar happens to you to cease communication and not comply with threats and contact police who can provide advice on the next steps to take.
