AgScape held their thinkAg Career Competition at Listowel District Secondary School marking the first time in 4 years such an event was held at the school.

12 classes all took part with multiple stations set up including Food Science with the University of Guelph, Egg Farmers with Egg Trivia and understanding Farm Finances with Libro Credit Union.

The day all circled around exploring the range of ag careers for students.

Avery Mueller, a grade 11 student who did her co-op over the summer with an interest in animal health science gave high praise for her placement at Ben and Sandy Terpstra’s dairy barn and Amanda’s K9 Bed and Biscuit.

“I got to experience both sides of large and small animals which is something I want to go into, which is becoming a vet essentially. It was really cool to see both sides because I’m not quite sure if I want to do large or small animals yet it was interesting to get a taste of both sides.” said Mueller

John Kuepfer, Agriculture SHSM Program Lead continues to encourage local support for co-op placements for students.

“If you’re interested in helping to equip the next generation to step in and help be a part of putting food on our tables that they should contact their local co-op departments and get involved, it’s a great thing and the students really appreciate it.” said Kuepfer

The day was complete with a donation from Equipment Ontario of a diesel engine for the transportation program to build the next generation of potential agricultural equipment technicians.
