Residents made their voices heard on Tuesday at Minto’s council meeting regarding a mixed use building in Palmerston.

The proposed development at 475 Main Street East would be a four storey mixed used building with a combination of commercial space on the ground floor with 58 rental apartments above with 99 parking spaces.

Residents such as John Akermanis who lives in Palmerston cited his concerns about the building being near his home.

“The fact that there is commercial there and our bedrooms back onto that particular plan. We’re going to have headlights starring into our bedroom windows at night. I’m not sure what kind of truck traffic they are talking about or commercial they’re going to have but I got a funny feeling the noise level is going to be pretty high’ said Akermanis.

Mayor Dave Turton made comments on the need for more apartments in Palmerston.

Some discussion on what commercial businesses would be included were a restaurant and auto parts store.

No immediate action has been taken by council with the proposed development being considered at a future meeting.
