An investigation has found an OPP officer was in the wrong for searching the SD card of a camera belonging to a GuelphToday reporter who was at the scene of a fatal crash in Guelph last December.
The investigation also found the officer was not in the wrong for detaining the reporter and taking the camera under the belief he was acting on the coroner’s instructions.
Reporter Richard Vivian was on the scene of a crash on December 20th who was taking photos of the accident and waiting to speak with police when an officer took his camera and Vivan was detained at the scene.
The camera and SD card was returned to Vivian the next day.
