Hosptial Fire Contained No Injuries Reported

A busy morning on Tuesday for the North Perth Fire Department which saw all stations respond to a fire at the Listowel Memorial Hospital.

OPP was on site closing down the road around the hospital for the fire which occurred on the second floor which was under construction.

The fire was kept to just the room of origin in the north wing which was caused by electrical equipment.

Fire crews were able to contain the blaze with no injuries being reported.

The fire department was sent back to their stations in the early afternoon.

The Listowel-Wingham Hospitals Alliance says smoke damage on the first and 2nd floor inpatient units, hospital inpatients are being sent to seven neighbouring hospitals.

Air quality testing is underway and the hospital does not expect to have full access to the inpatient beds for several weeks.

The LMHA adding hospital staff practice code reds (fire in the hospital) on a monthly basis with staff and physicians being credited for an amazing job of evacuating patients and continuing to care for them over the incident.
