Minto council has approved its 2024 budget which will include a 4.39 per cent increase in the local levy and a tax rate jump of 1.74 per cent.

This will mean an extra $9.33 in taxes per $100,000 of assessment or $23 for the average residential property owner.

The 2024 budget calls for a levy of $6,389,700, up $274,900 or 4.5 per cent from what was budgeted in 2023.

Some costs driving the budget include an increase in insurance premiums, more in IT support, part time labour costs for the fire department and additional spending for vehicle fuel and maintenance.

Councilor Judy Dirksen was appreciative of the work Minto staff had done with the budget, keeping it simple to work with.

“I see a lot of councils that get a budget of something ridiculous like 10 per cent increase from staff and council has to send it back and all that. We just bypass those steps and for the most part we get a reasonable budget in the first place.” Dirksen.

Council approved the motion to receive the report and adopt the 2024 capital and operating budget.
