A kayak launch in South Huron has turned into a massive success bringing in $10,500 for the Morrison Dam Conservation Area.
The launch was kicked off on August 22nd dubbed the “Ladies Sunset Kayak Night” which saw 107 kayakers which on also brought in $1600 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron with a kayak raffle.
Nathan Schoelier is Stewardship and Lands Manager with Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA). He said the new kayak launch, installed at the conservation area, is thanks to the initiative and dedication of the organizers and the community.
“This is an amazing example of community leadership and effort,” said Schoelier.
“This simply would not have been possible without the hard work of the organizers and without the support of the community.”
The kayak launch idea builds on the success previously an idea from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority who had interest in such a move but lacked the funding to do so.
