The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority alongside the Southern Ontario at Risk Reptiles team was able to release at risk species into the Thames River.

Every year SOARR incubates eggs from five at risk turtle species where they will eventually be released back into rivers, lakes, creeks and wetlands.

In 2023, 10,000 eggs will be released back into water streams.

Spiny softshell turtles were released into the Thames River earlier this month which continues to keep the species on recover and away from poaching, predators and climate change.
