Minto council has given full approval for a proposed site specific rezoning to allow a kennel on a rural property.
Minto requires a kennel license for anyone keeping more than three dogs on a property with the request coming from Chelsey Peterson who owns eight chocolate Labradors.
Peterson explained to council she is not operating a commercial kennel.
Peterson, who’s been on the property for seven years says she was unaware you needed a kennel license.
“Honestly I did not know I needed this, I guess my assumption was living out in the country it didn’t really matter. I look at it, people can have 10 goats and its not a problem” Peterson.
The town received 11 letters of support for the application who spoke on the quality of care Peterson provides.
Minto’s bylaw officer has also been on the site who no concerns to note.
