The blankets of smoke coming forest fires in Ontario and Quebec which can be seen locally is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Environment Canada has kept a special air quality statement in effect across the area with widespread smoke in the forecast next several days.

Officials say the province could expect to see more over the summer and into early fall, saying what is currently being seen is more of a preview of what kind of summer it could be like.

Affected residents are urged to stay indoors if they experience shortness of breath, wheezing, severe cough, dizziness, or chest pains.
