Stop to Assist Leads to Charges

On March 3rd at around 12:30am a Wellington County OPP officer stopped to assist a driver on Highway 6 just south of Fergus.

Two parties were standing along the highway next to a white coupe with its hazard lights on.

When the officer approached, the parties fled. One person was stopped with the other fled the scene in the vehicle.

As a result a 38 year old of Orangeville has been charged with a slew of crimes including Assaulting a Peace Officer, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, Possession of a Scheduled 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine.

The accused was held for bail.

The officer did not require medical attention.
