February 15th marks Canada’s Agriculture Day, celebrating everything on the fields and farms to your plates.
Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Peggy Brekveld says 1 in 8 Canadians work in some form of agriculture.
The day is to celebrate everything grown and raised on farms and rural living while thanking farmers for the work they do.
North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg says a day like today holds major significance locally.
“There is no question, we are the heart of agriculture in all of Canada. I’ve learned about agriculture since coming here, I’ve had amazing tutelage and wonderful advice from people and have come to fully appreciate the significance of agriculture to our economy but also our local culture. ” said Kasenberg.
Kasenberg adds work continues as a council locally to preserving farmland and keep it in production given the soils available to the area.
