North Perth victim loses $5,000 in Text Message Gift Card Fraud

The victim received a text message about suspicious activity on their credit card and subsequently received a call from a female who identified themselves as an employee of a bank.

The Perth County OPP is reporting that a resident of North Perth has been the victim of fraud losing $5,000.

Officers were called to an address in North Perth on January 10th just before 1pm.

It was revealed that the victim received a message on their phone about suspicious activity on their credit card.

They subsequently received a call from a female who identified themselves as an employee of a bank.

They were advised to purchase gift cards and to her bank to withdraw cash.

The victim was told the money for the purchases would be transferred to her bank account.

The investigation is ongoing police advise.
