Unemployment Rate Jumps to 3.5 Per Cent Locally

The local unemployment rate sits as the 2nd lowest rate in Ontario according the Four County Labour Market Planning Board.

The unemployment rate within the region in December jumped to 3.5 per cent.

The biggest losses seen were in health care and social assistance as well as manufacturing, construction and utilities.

Some gains were seen in agriculture, educational services and warehousing.

There was 3600 fewer jobs in the region due to full time employment dropping by 6000 jobs with part time jobs increasing by 2600.
