The province is investing in more Ornge Air Ambulances.

The current fleet is going to be replaced with a more modern, state of the art aircraft which will better serve rural communities.

The new ambulances are fixed wing planes instead of the more common Ornge helicopters.

In a release, Premier Doug Ford says they are investing historic amounts to ensure every Ontarian can access urgent health care services regardless of where they live.

Eight new planes are being purchased to replace the current fleet which was purchased between 2009 and 2010.

Annually Ornge conducts around 21,000 patient transports with the fixed right wing fleet making up 15 per cent of the patient transport volumes.

The province did not get into the details on how much the new fleet will cost.
